Hi, I have a 6.5 year old greyhound who has recently lost his rear leg to bone cancer, I have read lots of stories here recently and thought I would share my story with you all.
It all started on feb 11th 2013 when murphy broke his leg. The vet said it was a severe brake, after ex rays the leg was repaired with plates and pins. Murphy showed no signs of pain or limping prior to the brake. After one week a pin popped through his skin so a trip to the vets to be restitched. Another week went by and a couple of stitches came apart so he was restitched again. After the third week and three weeks of ex rays the bone cancer showed up, omg what to do – murphy had had three GA to be stitched three times – and each time came out ok, so we decided to have the leg removed- that’s when our problems really started. Four days after the op to remove leg, Murphy had a raging infection, we rushed him to the vets where he was opened up again – infection was flushed out well as much as could be, and stitched again, he had drains put in and four days later on the 18th March we took him back for the drains to be taken out – this went really well, but just three hours later he had a massive bleed and was rushed to the vets again, she didn’t think Murphy would last the night – but some how he did and we brought him home two days later. All through this Murphy has had a pinkish / reddish goo seeping through his stitches, it goes on for hours and then stops for a little while then starts again, he has a check up again tomorrow – 2nd April. He has been on antibiotics for two weeks, sometimes I can’t see Murphy recovering from this, it has been about 8 weeks since this all started and we don’t seem to be getting anywhere,
